Centre for Political Studies in Sarajevo, together with House of Peoples of the Parliament of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized on May 10, 2013 a conference on topic ‘What is Vital National Interest and to Whom It Belongs?- Constitutional and Political Dimension’. As a result of this conference a collection of papers was pulished, which represents a synthesis of research and expert opinions on vital national interest as well as its use in the period from 2003 to mid 2013.

The mechanism of protection of vital national interest in theory represents a form of protecting the interests of ethnic groups / constituent peoples, ie. protection of collective identity of the constituent peoples. However, in practice this mechanism has been used as a tool for unjustified blockage of adopting laws or other decisions. The aim of this collection of papers on vital national interest is to be the basis for further research of this phenomenon and basis for improving the mechanism in order to improve the functioning of the state.
